On the 14th of November 2022, the Department of English Language Teaching, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, hosted a vibrant Online English Day specially organized for the first-year students. Conducted under the ELTA-ELSE Faculty Development AHEAD Project, the event served as a meaningful platform for young undergraduates to celebrate, explore, and enhance their command of the English language.
The session was led by the distinguished Mr. Sivanoo Sivayesunesan, an expert in the field of English Language Teaching with an illustrious career spanning over 28 years at SUSL. With his extensive experience and dynamic facilitation style, Mr. Sivayesunesan engaged participants in an array of activities that encouraged creativity, confidence, and collaboration in English usage.
From interactive discussions and language games to thought-provoking reflections, the Online English Day was not just an event, it was an experience. It fostered a spirit of curiosity and joy in learning English, helping students recognize the value of language as a lifelong tool for academic and personal growth.
Held via Zoom from 9.00 AM onwards, the event brought together freshers in a digital space where they could connect, communicate, and grow as confident English users, reaffirming that language learning is not just a subject, but a journey worth embracing with enthusiasm and purpose.
